A Family Portrait In January {2016}

I think January has a bad reputation. It follows a month filled with love, where everyone spends and eats far too much (or is that just me?) It’s still cold and wet outside, and there is no sign of spring.
Despite all that, I think that its one of my favourite months of the year. The festivities are over its completely okay to hibernate indoors, snuggling up, resting and re-energizing. Everyone is inspired & motivated by a new year, and the mornings are slowly getting lighter.

This Month

The highlight of this month was celebrating Lily’s 5th Birthday, since she started reception in September she seems much more grown up. Lily has had quite a month, she started Rainbows the week before her 5th birthday, and she has had 2 weekends full of party’s as well as her own birthday meal and our family trip to The Deep aquarium in Hull.
Ava has also learned to crawl this month, and is absolutely loving her new-found mobility. She particularly likes the shiny Xbox light, and turning it off, which her siblings don’t enjoy as much as they like to watch Netflix through the Xbox!

Mummy is loving…

Lily’s reaction to her cake and fliker
Watching Ava Crawl
Watching the children get so excited at Ava Crawling!
Practising with a borrowed DSLR camera

 Daddy is loving…

Organising and tagging all our family photos using Windows Photo Gallery – and its facial recognition.
That our children look so similar as babies that we can only tell some of them apart by date.
His straight-faced reply to a colleague who told him something was syncing. “Whats it syncing about?”
Fast food!

James is loving…

Playing games on his tablet.
Good marks on his spelling tests
Helping out at home.

Lily is loving…

Celebrating her birthday.
All the parties!
Learning to ride her flikr.
Moving up to the ‘red’ band for reading

Amy is loving…

Her shark from The Deep.
Helping make (and eat) cake.
Using her scooter from Christmas
Playing with her friend at nursery.

Ava is loving…

Her new-found independence now she can crawl.
When her siblings make her giggle.
Standing up and bouncing.
Apricot yogurt.

Next Month

In February we celebrate Mr T’s Birthday, we have a date night planned, and its our first night out together as a couple for a very long time (Nearly 2 years!) We have started decorating our living room and we are looking forward to finishing it, and adding those exciting finishing touches. The children are looking forward to half-term, we have arranged to meet up with friends and a few day trips, but are hoping to keep a few days free just to relax at home and unwind.

Our January Photo

We have discovered getting a photo of 4 children looking is practically impossible, and the littlest isn’t at all interested in the camera! We are hoping to invest in a remote button when we buy our own DSLR, and hopefully capture some more natural shots towards our the end of this 2016.

Mr T’s sister kindly took this photo in her garden, it was much colder outside than it looked from the warm cosy kitchen so we were outside for all of 2 minutes!

Some more favourites

This was our first attempt at a family photo this month outside The Deep in Hull. It was windy and cold, and we did look fairly mad to all the people queued up inside, wrapped up in coats! We are seasoned The Deep visitors though now, and it’s much better to brave the cold for a few seconds while going inside than it is to carry or wear our coats around inside!

We had to tie the camera to the tripod too, because we took the wrong camera attachment for the tripod!

January is definitely long and a bit strange at times. We’re loving Star Wars too and I always tell myself to get my DSLR out a lot more. Hope you have a lovely night out together in February!

Thank you, we are really looking forward to it! I love taking photos with the DSLR, I always think it looks a bit excessive when we are walking about with it, but its worth it for the quality of photos, my mission this year is to improve xx

Awwww, such lovely photos of you all. And I’m definitely finding that its harder to get a photo of us as a five that it was as a four, so you get bonus points for managing it with six. It sounds like you’ve had a lovely start to 2016, and I’ll look forward to seeing more of your portraits this year. x

I think you do incredibly well getting everyone looking even vaguely in the direction of the camera – I struggle and I’m only taking pictures of five of us! I do like the shark as an extra member of the family though!

Thank you! As soon as I knew we were visiting I wanted a photo with our friend sharky, we did look fairly mad to the people queueing though, it was so cold and windy!

I love your photos, I think they are very natural. 4 kids looking one way is tricky!! It must be very stastifying to get all the photos tagged and organised!

Thank you 🙂 It has auto-face recognition which is fab! Its very rewarding, we have thousands of photos so its nice to get them sorted eventually! xx

Lovely pictures 🙂 it sounds like it’s been a good month. How are you finding the DSLR? I’m also hoping to get a DSLR soon (I have a big birthday coming up!) but I’ve never used one before! Xx

Such a lovely family photo of you all, considering there is six of you and you’re all pretty much looking at the camera you did an amazing job – I struggle with a dog. January is one of my favourite months, not really for the weather, but for stripping it back after a busy December x

Thank you! We would have captured a near perfect shot where everyone was looking and smiling except Ava who was looking over my shoulder, typical 😉 We love the excuse to hibernate and just enjoy being indoors xx

Ah Hannah these pictures are amazing!!! I find it hard to get four of us to look at the camera at the same time, so well done for getting all six of you looking. My girls love baking (and eating) cakes too, although I think they enjoy it more when I let them lick the spoon and bowl. #meandmine
